À propos ∞ Réplique is the first release by JP Hartnett since 2016’s well-received album 8 on 1631 Recordings. Based on music originally written for film, these new works demonstrate the accomplished development of Hartnett’s approach to piano composition and performance, as well as a more prominent exploration of digital production techniques. À propos is based on the dynamic structure of a live soundtrack performance from 2015, which was further elaborated at the artist’s home studio. The distant background voices present in the piece are pushed to the fore in Réplique, evoking their own haunting mirror image as they swell and drift through time.

JP Hartnett creates music on piano using a combination of composition, improvisation and digital production. He has released music on 1631 Recordings and independently, and been involved with various collaborative projects, including the experimental techno act Ordinate (Earwiggle, Abscissa) with John Flynn. He has performed at the Barbican and St. John on Bethnal Green in London, and at the Open Ear festival on Sherkin Island, off the coast of Cork. He lives in London, working as a designer, educator and writer.
